Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the last days of Christ and describes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem ("Hosanna"), then enimity that his preaching and popularity caused Jewish religious leaders ("Tell the rabble to be quiet, we anticipate a riot", his betrayl by Juda, the mocking contempt of Herod("It's a joke you're not the Lord, you are nothing but a fraud") and his trial in front of Pilate who, despite his sympathy for Jesus as a person, ("we both have truths, are mine the same as yours?", bows to the demands of Ciaphas, the Chief Priest, and has him crucified. It is a poignant scenario which ahs been echoed by oppressive political situations recorded through the ages.
